Description

A rare black edition of the Pioneer SX-535, the SX-5530. Internally, these receivers are identical and only the visual styling is different in terms of colour scheme and lighting. The fact that they are finished in anodised black, really sets them apart from the rest, originally designed to be the heart of a custom made stereo system with lots of flexibility.

Although the conservative rating of 20W per channel seems small, this is still more than enough to fill a large room.

All boards have had work carried out. Troublesome transistors have been replaced to make sure there will be no pops, crackles, or other unwelcome noises appearing on your sound stage for many years to come. All electrolytic capacitors have been changed throughout with improvements made to power supply and decoupling sections to improve the reliability for the power supply and stability of the performance of the amplifier from phono pre-amp to power amp sections.

The tuner section has been overhauled, with new capacitors, some upgraded to film to improve reliability and signal to noise ratios in the output. The tuner has then been given a full alignment and calibration to ensure the tuner is function to its peak performance. One such important adjustment reduced the distortion present in the outputted signal which has been carefully adjusted to give a THD rating of less than 0.1% on the tuner alone.

The power supply has been reviewed and more robust capacitors fitted to replace the originals which were running close to their limits.

The phono pre-amp has been recapped, smaller value capacitors replaced with film type capacitors to help reduce noise and maintain equal performance between left and right channels. Others have been replaced with special low leakage type capacitors to help reduce noise.

The fascia has been deep cleaned to remove all dirt and grime, bringing it back to a fresh new appearance as the photos should show. As you will also see, there are no large scratches or marks and cosmetically this is a fine example. This also comes complete with it’s original packaging and box, also in very good condition.

Due to the anodising process, there may be variations in the tone of black between this and other black receivers pioneer produced at different times.

All electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high quality Nichicon capacitors and transistors used are selected modern equivalents that do not alter the original tonal quality of the amplifier, it boasts a lovely powerful bass response and a balanced and clear performance that is not overly shrill.
