Older electronic organs made in USA. Although old, with a little care and attention, these can be made to sound better than new with a lovely tonal quality and powerful audio reproduction and bass. Suitable for both Theatre sounds and ecclesiastical settings.
The Conn Organ
Some of Conn’s Organs may now be entering into their 40s or even 50s in age. Some are often left untouched for years in a corner and then when switched on again, produce a number of problems. While it might sound like it is close to deaths door, often these problems are be easily remedied. Due to the nature of the design of Conns, almost everything is easily replaceable, even today and for a low cost.
Keys or pedals that crackle or don’t play, don’t stop playing or anything in between, can usually be repair in place without much invasive work to get the organ responding properly.
Another common problem is that either all the reed or brass sounds will not speak or the opposite, that the Tibia’s or flute voices will not sound but all the brass voices do. Again, this is a fairly common problem and there is a straight forward procedure to get these voices sounding again.
Sometimes there can be excessive noise or hum or no sound at all. Again, this is often a problem due to its age but is usually an inexpensive task to bring the organ back into working use which will continue to run for many years to come.
Leslie Cabinets
Many of the Conn organs have built in Leslie cabinets or make use of external Leslie cabinets and Conn pipes. I am able to service, maintain and repair both of these extras or built in Leslie units. Servicing these and particularly servicing the motors of the rotating speakers is critical to ensuring the continued running of the Leslie cabinet and to ensure the Leslie continues to function. Failure to keep these well maintained can result in overheating and a risk of fire or a complete failure of the motor. These types of motors are becoming difficult to replace due to their exact nature and so this is best avoided with good care and maintenance.
