The heart of any sound system
Electrics
The amplifier is the heart of any sound system and usually one of the most important parts too. That’s why it is so important to keep them in good working order. I offer full restoration services and diagnosis. I have the knowledge and skill required to undertake the task of repairing and restoring any of Pioneer’s amplifiers from simple amplifiers such as the SA-420 all the way up to their specially designed Non Switching Amplifier in models such as the A-90 or the SA-8800.
In the case of blown or damaged semi conductors, I only replace them with high quality modern day equivalents made by manufacturers such as On-Semi and Fairchild. All replacements are gain matched if applicable and changes are usually mirrored on the second amplifier to ensure that the sound does not differ significantly between left and right channels.
Often in the older models of Pioneer amplifiers, there are common faults with all models inherent by design. While these do not detract from performance, they will eventually begin to cause problems such as cracks and pops, dipping in and out of protection until in the worst case scenario, the amplifier could blow; damaging many other components.
Having worked on these amplifiers for a number of years, I am familiar with these problems and can carry out repairs, replacing these components with new ones that will ensure the amplifier will last for another thirty or more years.
Cosmetics
Just as important as the actual workings of the amplifier, are the cosmetics, and so these do not go unchecked.
In addition to the above, I also offer a deep cleaning service that takes your amplifier and gives all external components such as knobs, switches and face plate, a very in-depth but gentle clean; bringing back a bright and clean shine. On top of this, every item is then polished before being refitted to give an outstanding finish that helps complete restoration work or just remove the years of dust and dirt.
The case, as well as the fascia can be attended to, from removing rust and scratches back to bare metal and then respraying in a gloss or matt original colour. Often this will be black. Any wooden sections to the case can also be restored and refinished.
In the worst cases, I can replace wooden cases with brand new custom solid wood cases made to order.
